Literary appreciation of the roots (Thomaskutty Mathew, BA Sociology, 20usoc3602)

The Roots is a beautiful short story written by Ismat Chughtai.  Ismat Chughtai in  her short stories has depicted the oppression and misery of middle class Muslim women with artistic depth. Ismat Chughtai's short stories helped in bringing out many complications in society which would rather have been unknown to people in India.

Roots is a fictional take on the impact of the Partition on interpersonal relationships, memory as well as the idea of 'home' and 'community'.

Literary Devices
