IS PERIODS A MATTER OF SHAME? (Team -5)

"You should avoid going out now onwards”, “You should neither enter into the kitchen nor touch the plants ,because your presence will make those impure” "Stop all your friendship with boys ,you are grown now” “If someone asks why you are looking so grief ,tell them it's fever or something ,don't tell anything about periods because you should always hide your periods and its problems”, “always make sure that you covered the sanitary napkins properly when you buy it from the store so that no one notice it ".This may be some unwanted advices girls got from the society including their parents .Dome families even force their girls to bury the clothes they wore during periods by saying the may destroy the purity of the surroundings. I think it is clear that I am going to share my thoughts about "PERIODS"

I got my menarche when I was 12 years old but I was unaware of its importance and why this happens to me.So I thought speaking openly about my menstruation or about its problem as a crime and I remember those time where we girls passed napkins with utmost care and fear without getting noticed by boys  like we are carrying some deadly weapons.

Though we are living in the twenteeth century many of as considers periods as a taboo and a matter to be shamed. When someone openly talks about periods and its problems society  find it weird and vulgar ,why this is happening. Why this process which meant for sustaining life in earth get considered as vulgar and impure .

From the teacher who skipped the portions about periods in the 9th standard syllabus, to our parents who said this is none of your business  or reacted angrily when we enquired about' WHISPER' which we get familiar by advertisement, made periods a taboo and a matter of shame, also they indirectly stated that this matters only belongs to women and she should tolerate the mental and physical trauma of periods herself. What we got from these is ,if we ask a boy to tell something about periods he probably says 'Aey I am not that type' with a mocking smile ,even some girls too.So pathetic !

Although India claims that it is developing country ,we are still in the sixteenth century

on dealing  issues of women. About 60 % of women in India is facing issues related menstrual hygiene and even some girls dropout their education as they are not getting proper hygiene practices and care during periods. Also it is evident from the immoral activities of some Indian communities in relation with periods which killed many girls in sake of keeping their caste and community pure. We all remember the 14-year-old girl who died in a cyclone in 2018 after being forced to sleep separately because she was menstruating and a 12 -year -old girl killed herself on 28 August  2017 after her teacher allegedly scolded her in class for staining her clothes and her seat with menstrual blood. The true sense of education is missing .How can they do so?Are we are too far from real sense of education?.It is the high time to cross check our thoughts.

I am concluding my thoughts by mentioning Zomato who came up with revolutionary step by giving period leaves to their women employees. We need more and more people like this who have great level of thinking to create a space of equality.

In every fiction stories supernatural powers are given to male characters and society worship them as superman. But I think the supernatural power which belongs to girl should be praised. Yes...I am a superwomen ,if you are a girl then you are a superwomen, who bleed every month along with the sufferings of abdominal pain ,back pain ,vomiting , nausea and mood swings in order to give a new life to the earth .

Take a moment to think about it ,you are alive today because someone (a women) suffered a long years ago .If you are trying to hate or criticize someone who openly talks about periods even after seeing many persons aiming to normalise periods  ,then its ok ,I only consider you as the 0.01% germs who doesn't get killed by Abbas.

               Thank You .
