THE ALCHEMIST  BY PAULO COELHO


The alchemist written by Paulo Coelho is an inspirational story of Santiago, a shephered boy .Believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, he sells his sheep and  goes to Egyptian pyramids to fetch treasure.   During his journey he meet many people .The old king of Salem introduce the idea of personal legend. Your personal legend is "What you have always wanted to accomplish. He arrived at Africa. A man claims to take him to the pyramid and instead rob his money. Then he works with a crystal merchant to get money to go to the pyramid. He met with an English man who came in search of an alchemist. He continued to travel with him. He fall in love with an Arabian girl and proposes to marry her. She promises to marry him  only after he completes the journey . The novel brings the idea that true love can prove to be a great stimulus when time comes. The boy encounters with a wise alchemist who teach him to realise his true self. He comes to know that "when you want some thing, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it ." The book says, fear of failure stops us living our destiny. Overcoming this is a great victory .Santiago understand the relation between man and nature while travelling. His quest and how he overcomes the  obstacles of violence ,confusion and despair ,is an encouraging pleasure to the reader. When he begins digging the pyramid for treasure ,he came to knOw that the treasure was in the ruined church where he had his original dream .The main theme of the book is about finding ones' destiny .The  book was a best seller.
