THE ALCHEMIST  BY PAULO COELHO


The alchemist written by Paulo Coelho is an inspirational story of Santiago, a shephered boy .Believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, he sells his sheep and  goes to Egyptian pyramids to fetch treasure.   During his journey he meet many people .The old king of Salem introduce the idea of personal legend. Your personal legend is "What you have always wanted to accomplish. He arrived at Africa. A man claims to take him to the pyramid and instead rob his money. Then he works with a crystal merchant to get money to go to the pyramid. He met with an English man who came in search of an alchemist. He continued to travel with him. He fall in love with an Arabian girl and proposes to marry her. She promises to marry him  only after he completes the journey . The novel brings the idea that true love can prove to be a great stimulus when time comes. The boy encounters with a wise alchemist who teach him to realise his true self. He comes to know that "when you want some thing, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it ." The book says, fear of failure stops us living our destiny. Overcoming this is a great victory .Santiago understand the relation between man and nature while travelling. His quest and how he overcomes the  obstacles of violence ,confusion and despair ,is an encouraging pleasure to the reader. When he begins digging the pyramid for treasure ,he came to knOw that the treasure was in the ruined church where he had his original dream .The main theme of the book is about finding ones' destiny .The  book was a best seller.

  Lady in the house, her responsibilities and ambitions The most important video which struck my attention was the inspirational video by Amrita Duhan. Ms.Amrita Duhan is an IPS officer by profession and MBBS by degree. She hails from Rohtak in Haryana. From the very young age she dreamt of becoming a Civil Servant. She was inspired by a serial telecasted in the Doordarshan channel. Later when she informed it in her family her parents didn't support it. Sarcastically, she says that the ultimate goal of middle-class parents is let their children be a doctor or engineer. She further adds that for a secure future Mrs Amarita Duhan choose MBBS and she says that she is the first doctor in her own family. After completing her MBBS and MD in pathology,  she had joined as an assistant professor in a Government Medical College. Then came up her marriage. OVERCOMING HOPELESSNESS : Thomaskutty Mathew, 1st BA Sociology

   Today I am going to introduce a new personality, who might be familiar to at least some of us. His name is Nick Vujicic.   Nick Vujicic is an Australian-American motivational speaker, born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of hands and legs. He was born in Australia and later he shifted to California. Basically he is a Christian evangelist.    The essence of all his speech is to "transform the worse into the best." In his autobiography,  he says that when he was born his mother was reluctant to see him. Later on they eventually accepted the fact that it was God's plan for their son.   He says about how he overcame obstacles in his life. Further, he adds that his  obstacles became opportunities. He says that a lot of students teased him. In spite of all those he could  complete his higher education successfully.   His words are to be noted in our hearts.  " When we lose hope we will lose our strength to live. " Willpower
