Roots /Hridya Nair

 A short story written by (Ismat Chughtai). Is a fictional take on the impact of the Partition on interpersonal relationships, memory as well as the idea of 'Home' and 'community'. The story depicts how financial burden is another reason for the plight of a lower and lower middle class women.

Roots mourns over  the lost of an oldmother where her children decide to move to Pakisthan by leaving Amma here.This story mainly focused on  relationship between the neighbouring hindu and muslim family (Abba's  and Rupchandji) .The family lived in love but partition also seperated their love to each other. During the crucial situation while Hindu's returning to India and Muslims to Pakisthan. Amma take the decision to continue in her land and not to leave.When her children leave her her taughts  made the story more beautiful. The inner taughts  like the day she came as mrs Abba ,her first childs birth at the room , her husbands death all are happened her and she felt the real lonliness.At the time of seperation she had a strong believe that Rupchandji  would not involve in seperation and their bond will not break.

   The relationship between Abba's  family and Rupchandji's family is like Rupchandjis son will marry Abba's daughter, they can say like this because of the strong bond . If there any conflict between childrens of both family there parents will beat them and the medicine was from Rupchandji. Rupchandji was the family doctor  especially in times of delivery and atlast  the death of Abba. After Abba's death Rupchandji was the supreme one who decide what to do ,both the families is like that love .

         This story is about what happens in two families due to the Indo-Pak partition.Here Rupchandji can't do anything while they left because his family not allowed him to go and his mind is depressed because he does the wrong .In the end of story we can saw that he take back all the Abbas family people to their house where they live before where their roots. Amma was in a specific mental condition no one is beside her and taught about her situation her roots is her place where all happens even her Husbands last sleep held . 

    The story "Root" is beautiful story as it says that where they lived and all the situation in life had happen like a tree grows from its begining and different branches like Children birth , daughter in laws entry, their delivery, Abbas death, relationship with Roopchandjis family, conflict and rejoin of her son and all the things happened  before they leave.The beautiful visualisation in story is amaizing which made readers attention .This story is very thought provoking to the readers, with accurate poetic imagery.fictional take on the impact of the Partition on interpersonal relationships, memory as well as the idea of 'home' and 'community'.
