I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP (Thomaskutty Mathew, 1st BA SOCIOLOGY: TEAM 3)
The lexicon best describes Promise as "a declaration or assurance that one will do something or that a particular thing will happen."
Promise is the keystone of human life. All of us are guided by certain promises. The base being religious, what Jesus said, "If you follow my commandments you will be awarded thy kingdom. " Again our parents are guided by a promise, the promise taken before the altar or fire at the time of their marriage. We too are guided by a promise which indirectly each one of us are bound to keep up with.
At times, we come across the promise of love. We are not unfamiliar with this, since it has become the pulse, trend and heartbeat of the modern era. Love and crush for others is quite good and O.K, making promise with others too. But don't forget to keep the initial promise made to the parents, which is hidden, indirect and unwritten.
Personally, I am one who keeps promises. They can be of many versions. Promising to be on time be the simple yet more important. Other one be the promise made to our self. It can vary depending upon the self of each other. The fundamental one being the one made to our parents, which as I have quoted before as "indirect".
Have you ever thought of a man who always keeps promises without an interruption? By what name did our society designates him/her? He/she will often be designated as 'fool' or 'Mr. Perfect'(in contempt). But to me, the one who completely mugs up the promise is a real Mr.Perfect. Utter shame on our society's mentality.
We have the testimonials of many who kept promises and the rewards they received. The biblical examples of Abraham, Moses and Mary are all the best ones. They are crowned for their promises.
There are three things that one shouldn't break
1. Promise
2. Trust
3. Someone's heart
Be the promise to someone and you. Because, you are going to suffer for your promises or enjoy. Since not all promises are good for us. So, be cool and stay thinking before making a promise. Don't be panic and don't make any foolish utterances. Because, it's YOU, that matters.
