HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF? : A TALK BY LIZZIE VELASQUEZ

"WHAT DEFINES YOU AS A PERSON IS NOT THE LIFE YOU WERE BORN INTO.....BUT WHAT YOU MADE OUT OF IT."

The name Lizzie Velasquez can be seen as one of the best examples for the above quote. And her talk at the Tedx platform again proves this point. She inspires us through the speech by sharing her own life experiences.....

Talking about her life, she was her parents first child. And when she was born the doctors told her parents to not expect their daughter to walk ,crawl ,think and to do anything by herself. Because she was born with an extremely rare and congenital disease called Marfanoid-progeroid-lipodystrophy syndrome that, among other symptoms, prevents her from accumulating body fat and body weight. Along with that she is blind in her right eye, which began to cloud over when  she was four...But her parents never felt a sense of  dissatisfaction with her. They raised her with a lot of love and support.

Everything went so good...happy... until her first day at school. When she joined the school, the children all looked at her in an amazement as they had seen a monster! It was then only she came to understand the fact that, there were some differences between her and the other children. And when she came to know about her conditions and diseases from her parents, she managed to accept the reality and continue everything in a positive way.... But one day she saw one of her videos posted and the people commenting and portraying her very badly. The viewers labelled her as the 'world's ugliest women'. These kinds of talks and comments from the people who didn't even know who she is...why she is like this..... made her very very sad. And all these together resulted in bullying as well as cyber bullying too!  It was these circumstances and experiences of her own life inspired her to take up motivational speaking. And today she is known for public speaking, public appearances, anti-bullying activism and book authorship!

In a time, when beauty is defined by supermodels..... success is defined by wealth.....fame is defined by the number of followers you have on your social media..... Lizzie is asking a question - "HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF ?"  And she also instructs the listeners to make our own definitions of happiness and to make use of all negativities to make our life more beautiful and better.

Through this talk she simply proves the fact that.... tough times don't define you....they just refine you.... refines the best version of yourself.
